Police Seeking Help Regarding Attempted Carjacking
Crete Police Chief Scott Pieritz released a statement Wednesday afternoon regarding an attempted carjacking incident in the Village.
“At approximately 3:00 a.m. this morning, officers were dispatched to the area of Brenner Court and Innsbruck Lane for a call of “shots fired.”,” the statement began.
Chief Pieritz says the victim told responding officers that after arriving home from work and sitting in their car, a tan or gold SUV pulled up behind and a black male suspect got out with a handgun and approached the victim in their vehicle.
“The victim placed their vehicle in reverse to get out of the area, and the suspect shot several rounds in their direction, striking their vehicle. The victim continued to drive in reverse, striking the suspect’s vehicle in the front passenger side. The victim fled the area in their vehicle and contacted the police,” Chief Pieritz said.
No injuries were reported and officers canvassed the area and collected evidence. Crete detectives are investigating the incident as attempted carjacking, and it appears so far to be an isolated incident.
Chief Pieritz is asking any witnesses, anyone with knowledge of a tan or gold SUV with damage corresponding to the episode, or residents who may have security footage of the incident, to contact Detective Lucia of the Crete Police Department.
