Village Board Trustee Holly Milburn reported at the January 26 board meeting that the two officers currently attending the police academy are in their fourth week and doing well.
Officers Caesar and Jacob Whistler were sworn in last month and began their 16-week police academy on January 4. Caesar is an Army reservist and bilingual, while Jacob Whistler is a criminal justice student.
Police Commissioner McPhee said both officers are excellent candidates and thanked them for joining the department, wishing them success as they continue through the academy.
Mayor Mark Wiater welcomed the new officers, thanking them for choosing Crete and saying the Village is excited to have them on board.
Police Chief Pieritz noted that the hiring and screening process took six months, adding that the department is now fully staffed again.
