Fire Department, News Flash|

Neal Haemker and Kyle Haemker were sworn in as Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief, respectively, at the Village board meeting on Monday night.

“I look forward to serving this community, that I grew up in,” the new Fire Chief said at the Village board meeting.

The brothers, both Crete natives, began their firefighting careers in Crete, and bring a combined four decades of experience from various Chicagoland fire departments to their new roles.

“They’ve seen what works and what doesn’t work, and that background is gonna help us here,” Crete Mayor Michael Einhorn said.

The position of Crete Fire Chief became vacant in early October of last year with the unexpected passing of Chief J.P. Muirhead. With these new appointments, the Mayor and Village board aim to maintain the traditions, professionalism, and community engagement within the fire department, ensuring long-term stability, growth, and innovation.

“One of the biggest things is implementing a strategic plan. Setting the goals for three year, five year, ten year,” Crete Fire Chief Neal Haemker said.

Congratulations to Neal Haemker and Kyle Haemker.
