Sanitary Sewer

General Description

The Sewer Department takes care of all the sanitary manholes, including general maintenance and cleaning. They use a vactor truck to clean, unplug and jet sewers. This department also repairs broken pipes.

All of the Village of Crete sewage is pumped to Thorn Creek Basin Sanitary District in Chicago Heights where it is treated. The Village allocates approximately $230,000 a year for sewer repairs and maintenance. Projects such as video taping sewer lines, cutting of roots, and lining the inside of the sewer without digging them up are a few of the things that are done to maintain the sewer system. The Village of Crete works very closely with Thorn Creek Basin Sanitary District on all projects. The Village is currently finishing up the sump pump inspection project to assist Thorn Creek Basin Sanitary District receive less sewage to treat. Remember, the more liquid we send to the sanitary district, the more it costs to treat it.
