Prescription Drug Take Back Program

The Village of Crete Police Department has been designated as a secured site for turning in unused prescription drugs. Our police department has partnered with the Cook County Sheriff’s Department in their Prescription Drug Take Back Program. This program allows prescription drugs to be disposed of in a safe and secure manner.

Many issues arise with improper prescription drug disposal such as:

  • Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor’s supervision.
  • The non-medical use of prescription drugs ranks second only to marijuana as the most common form of drug abuse in the United States. The majority of teenagers abusing prescription drugs get them from family and friends – and the home medicine cabinet.
  • Unused prescription drugs thrown into the trash can be retrieved and abused or illegally sold.
  • Just as troubling, every day prescription drugs are dumped down drains, toilets, and in garbage. Unused drugs that are flushed contaminate the water supply. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment.

Keep our drinking water and community safe by bringing your outdated prescription drugs to the Prescription Drug Take Back Collection Box located in our police station. For more information, please visit the Cook County Sheriff’s Department website.
