The Village of Crete Police Department, a progressive south suburban town, is always looking for the best candidates available to fill future positions as lateral or entry level police officers. The Village of Crete is located within Will County, approximately 25 miles south of Chicago.  Although a smaller community, we take pride in providing our officers with the best training, equipment, support, and opportunities.  The police department invests in each officer and seeks to utilize each officers individual strengths to engage that officer and benefit the department as a whole. Becoming a Police Officer/Hiring Process

The Crete Police and Fire Commission is responsible for conducting testing for police officer job vacancies. The commission utilizes www.theblueline.com  to publish and promote these hiring cycles.  The application process is not always active so, interested candidates can search this website for our hiring information and can contact Sgt. New Hire (entry level) Minimum Qualifications

Must be a U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S. (as prescribed by law), Must have a valid Driver’s License, Must be at least 21 years old at time of application. Applicants who are 20 years of age at time of application shall be eligible to take the initial examination, but will not be eligible for appointment (and shall be passed over) until such time as the Applicant reaches 21 years of age, Must be UNDER 35 years of age at time of application, unless certified and employed as a full-time law enforcement officer for a municipality in the United States or are otherwise exempt by State Statute. Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character (Note: a misdemeanor or serious traffic offense may also disqualify applicants from further consideration), Must possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. Test card issued no more than 12 months prior to the submission of the application. Testing, Background, and Interview process through the Crete Police and Fire Commission.

Lateral Officer Minimum Qualifications

State of Illinois certification by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (Part-time certification as a law enforcement officer does not meet this requirement), United States citizen, Individuals must be at least 21 years old, Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent, Experience – at least 2 of the last 3 years of consecutive full time sworn service with a municipal department, Valid Driver’s License. Testing and interview process through the Crete Police and Fire Commission Process (mandatory tests to be determined by commission)
