Crete Community Policing Initiatives

The Crete Police Department prides itself on forging strong community relationships and being proactive in our approach to engaging the community in positive interactions, events, and deeds.  The police department participates and sponsors both large and small events throughout the year.  This includes involvement in Special Olympics (Polar Plunge, Torch Run, BB game, 5-0 at the Dirty-O Race, and others), Shop with a Cop, National Night Out, Park District Events, Coffee with a Cop, Annual Crete Community Clean-up Day, guest bartender fundraisers, Community Policing/Neighborhood Watch Meetings, Annual Community Policing BINGO Night, Neighborhood Pop-Up Picnic Events, and other activities throughout the year. “Police and community relationships are essential for good communication and overall public safety. In Law Enforcement, there is time for arrest and ticketing, but mostly, there must be time for empathy, problem-solving, and service to your community.”(Chief Pieritz).
