  • Phil Hameister – Joining the Fire Department in 1980 following in my dad’s footsteps, I have enjoyed my 40 plus years as a POC. Working my way up the ladder, I acquired many state certifications including EMT-A. I was promoted to Lieutenant then to Captain. In addition, I have also taught many classes for which I truly enjoy. As most POC’s work full time jobs elsewhere, working for the Village of Crete Public Works allowed me the opportunity to respond to calls during the daytime hours if needed, in addition to nights and weekends. I also held the position of Association President for roughly 10 years and headed several fundraisers for the Fire Association, including pancake breakfasts, street dances and two Harley Davidson raffles.
  • Jim Boehner – Captain James Boehner joined the Crete Fire Department on July 3, 1979. In addition to his State Firefighting certifications, he became one of the Department’s first licensed paramedics in 1981. Captain Boehner’s family has resided in the Crete area since the 1830’s. His father, Vernon, was a Department member in the 1930’s, and his great Uncle, Henry served as Assistant Chief. Jim and his wife Judi have resided in Crete since their return from college in 1973.

  • Keith Kerness – I started my time in fire service in April 1993 in a little town on a volunteer department. It did not take long to figure out that about 90% of the calls were ambulance calls, so I went back to school to get my EMT-B license, that lead up to the paramedic license. Once I got a few years in, I was hooked and in September 2001, I was on a private ambulance service doing emergency calls full time. Did the ambulance for 15 years then joined the Crete Township Fire District. When Chief Waterman took over in Crete, he got me to switch to the Crete Fire Department. In July of 2021, I was promoted to Lieutenant of the Department where I am still positioned to this day and hope to be for a long time to come.
