FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL in the State of Illinois-Up to $750.00 fine. We don’t make the rules, but we are charged with enforcing them.
Just a reminder that if it blows up/explodes, shoots into the sky, or you can only get it out of state, it is probably illegal. If it ONLY smokes, sparkles, fountains, or snakes on the ground and you can buy it at an Illinois Menards or Walmart, you are probably GOOD.
Illegal fireworks are against ordinance and state law. You can/may be written a ticket or physically arrested for possession of illegal fireworks. They also disturb animals (pets), veterans, those with sensory issues, those who have to work the next day, can cause fires, and permanently remove your fingers.
** The police department gets ALOT of calls and complaints (like every other town) about fireworks this time of year. We try and do our best to deal with the biggest offenders and run other calls (4th of July weekend always busy).
FYI, If you host a party or have fireworks at your house, you may never be contacted by the police, but may get a court notice mailed to you. If this occurs, we WILL be looking for the maximum fee of $750.00 PER OCCURRENCE
