Village Hall Closed on Memorial Day

This event has ended

Crete Village Hall is closed in observance of Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is claimed by some to have first been celebrated in 1868 by General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, as “Decoration Day”. By the end of the World Wars, it was generalized as a day of remembrance, instead of just for the Civil War, and in 1971, Congress standardized the holiday as “Memorial Day” and changed its observance to the last Monday in May.
