Kathy Schweikart, Senior Companion Program Coordinator for Catholic Charities, will present information on a free service and volunteer opportunity in our community.
The Senior Companion Program (SCP) provides free weekly home visits to homebound seniors (who no longer drive) and want to live independently in their homes. Companions meet with clients for social visits (e.g., talking, playing games, crafts, and other activities) and may also assist with occasional local transportation to grocery stores, doctor appointments, and other destinations. These volunteers can also provide respite care for family caregivers by giving them time to rest and refresh. The volunteers that Catholic Charities are looking for are seniors (55+) who have extra time and are willing to volunteer with other older adults in their community. If you would like more information on becoming a Senior Companion or if you would like a Senior Companion to assist you or a loved one, please attend this session.
