2020 Census: Support Your Community

Did you know that the Village of Crete forfeits $171.84 in tax revenue from the State of Illinois, for every person in Crete who doesn’t fill out the 2020 Census? The Census money is earmarked for things like local law enforcement and public works.

Now imagine that one percent of Crete, or 83 people, don’t participate in the census. That’s $14,192.00. But what if it’s 20{2ea2584bbd0afbe1d4d51a2518a34972430dfc33a61f1a011410a66bcc6148b4} of residents that don’t fill out the Census? The lost revenue is now $284,000.00, which might result in reduced law enforcement resources and more potholes in Crete roads.

The good news is that, with your help, there’s still time to avoid any potential issues. All you need to do is go to 2020census.gov before October 5th and fill out the form. You can also call 844-330-2020 and complete the process by phone.

The U.S. Census Bureau is bound by law to protect your answers and keep them strictly confidential, so don’t worry about your answers being published.

If you’ve already completed the census, awesome! Thank you! If you could still help spread the word and maybe gently nudge any procrastinators around you and share the Census website or phone number with them, we’d really appreciate that too!

And remember, the deadline for the 2020 Census is October 5th, and the next Census is not until 2030, so we gotta make this one count. Go #TeamCrete!
