Purpose and History EASTCOM combined dispatch was formed by intergovernmental agreements between the Villages of Beecher, Crete, Monee, Peotone, and University Park, and the fire districts of Beecher, Crete Township, Monee and Peotone. The purpose of forming EASTCOM was to bring the dispatching of Police and Fire agencies under one roof. The goal was to deliver a high level of quality service to the citizens of Eastern Will County, while being cost effective.
On October 1, 1998, these municipalities consolidated their emergency service dispatching in the EASTCOM, becoming the fifth PSAP (Public Service Answering Point) in Will County to do so.
This consolidation allowed the communities involved to save money, for the standardization of telecommunication equipment that individual communities may not have been able to purchase, and provided for an unprecedented level of cooperation between numerous Police and Fire agencies. |
