Internship Opportunities
There are several paid internship opportunities available for college graduates in our area. The following list has been providing to us by State Representative Elgie R. Sims, Jr. from Illinois District 34.

Illinois Legislative Staff Intern Program
Each year, the Illinois Legislative Staff Intern Program (ILSIP) provides 24 unique internships for keenly interested, deeply motivated and talented individuals to work within state government. With the capitol as both workplace and classroom, ILSIP interns earn 8 graduate credits in political studies from the University of Illinois at Springfield.

ILSIP interns work full time for 10.5 months for a monthly stipend of $2,026, along with a tuition waiver for 8 graduate credit hours and the option for student health insurance paid as a benefit of the program. The program accepts applicants from all academic backgrounds who have completed either an undergraduate or advanced degree. Appliants who are pursuing an undergraduate degree must have been awarded the degree prior to starting the internship.

All Application materials must be postmarked or date stamped by March 1, 2014. Final selections/placements are announced in May. Internships begin August 16, 2014.

Dunn Fellowship & Marzullo Internship
The James H. Dunn, Jr. Memorial Fellowship Program and Vito Marzullo Internship Program and governmental initiatives that strive to meet the public sector's future need for competent administrators. The Dunn Fellowship and Marzullo Internship serve as public sector management training programs that provide an opportunity for college graduates to supplement their education with experience in such areas as policy analysis and program administration.
Dunn Fellows and Marzullo interns will be placed in the Office of the Governor and agencies under the Governor's jurisdiction and work from August 1, 2014 through July 31, 2015 for compensation of $2,611 per month. The program accepts applicants from all academic majors who will be located primarily in Springfield, IL with limited placement in Chicago, IL and Washington, DC.

All applications must be postmarked by February 28, 2014, interviews will take place during March and April 2014, with notifications taking place in April and May 2014.

Graduate Public Service Internship Program
If you are interested in simultaneously beginning a professional career while earning a master's degree from the University of Illinois Springfield, then consider the Graduate Public Service Internship Program at the University of Illinois Springfield.

Located within the Center for State Policy and Leadership, GPSI is ranked as one of Illinois' premier governmental internship programs. For 40 years this program has provided top-flight graduate students with a high quality graduate education, real world experience, and lifelong connections.

Eligibility

Regardless of your academic background, you are eligible to apply. GPSI is a competitive application process with successful applicants having the opportunity for a long-term (up to 21 months) placement with outstanding benefits.

After completing program requirements, many interns continue working in state government, while others gain employment at other levels of government or pursue opportunities in the business sector.
Deadline
The deadline for GPSI file completion to be eligible for 1st round interviews will be at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 and for 2nd round interviews will be at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014. Applicants selected for interviews will be contacted via email by the GPSI Office.
